Solar Window Film

Solar Window Film

Solar window films reflect sunlight and noticeably lower the room temperature. They also block UV radiation and reduce glare at your desk. Depending on the window type, mounting location and desired tint level, different films are available.

Maximum Heat Rejection

Exterior Solar Window Film

Exterior films stop solar radiation before it passes through the glass. This is the most effective method: up to 90% of solar energy is rejected. Exterior films are suitable for almost all glass types, including insulated glass, double glazing and skylights.

  • Up to 90% heat rejection as radiation is reflected before reaching the glass
  • Suitable for insulated glass, double glazing and skylights
  • Hard coat finish: scratch-resistant and weather-proof

Interior Solar Window Film

Interior films are applied to the inside of the window. They absorb and reflect a large proportion of solar radiation. Heat rejection is slightly lower than exterior films, but installation is easier and costs are lower. Interior films are suitable for single-pane glass only. On insulated or thermal glass, interior films risk thermal glass breakage.

  • Up to 80% heat rejection at lower cost
  • Easy self-installation from inside, even on upper floors
  • Additional glare and privacy protection through mirror effect

No Adhesive

Static Solar Window Film

The static version adheres to the glass through adhesion without any glue. It can be removed and reapplied at any time without residue. Ideal for rental properties and seasonal use: apply in summer, remove in winter.

  • Up to 80% heat rejection, comparable to self-adhesive films
  • Removable without residue and reusable
  • Perfect for rental properties and seasonal use

Which Solar Window Film for Which Situation?

The right choice depends on your window type, accessibility and requirements.

Home and House

South-facing windows and skylights heat up living spaces considerably in summer. Solar window film lowers the temperature noticeably and can make air conditioning unnecessary. For insulated glass and skylights, an exterior film is required. For single-pane windows, an interior film is sufficient.

Recommended: exterior film for skylights, interior film for single-pane glass

Office and Commercial

Large window fronts in offices mean excessive heat and screen glare. Solar window film lowers the room temperature, reduces glare and saves air conditioning costs. For modern glazing (insulated glass), exterior mounting is recommended.

Recommended: Silver Medium exterior film (protection + light)

Seasonal Use

Only need sun protection in summer? Static solar window film adheres without glue and can simply be removed in autumn. For rental properties, this is also the best option as it leaves no adhesive residue.

Recommended: static solar window film

Frequently Asked Questions About Solar Window Film

Solar window film reflects and absorbs a large proportion of solar radiation. This noticeably lowers the room temperature, reduces UV exposure by up to 99% and decreases glare at your workspace. Furniture, flooring and textiles are better protected against fading.

That depends on the glass type. On insulated glass, thermal glass and skylights, only exterior film should be used, as interior films can cause thermal glass breakage on these glass types. On single-pane glass, you can use an interior film. Exterior films generally offer stronger heat rejection (up to 90% vs. 80% for interior films).

Depending on the film type and tint level, solar window film reduces solar energy by up to 90%. Dark films offer more protection but allow less light through (approx. 16%). Medium tints offer a good balance between heat rejection (up to 69%) and light transmission (approx. 30%).

Yes, solar window film reduces light transmission. The stronger the heat rejection, the darker the film. For rooms that need to stay bright, we recommend a lighter variant (e.g. Silver Light with 59% light transmission). For maximum heat rejection, the darker films (16-20% light transmission) are best suited.

On insulated glass, thermal glass and double glazing, only exterior film should be used. Interior films on these glass types can cause thermal glass breakage, as the space between the panes heats up excessively. Our exterior films are suitable for all common glass types.

The film is applied to the clean glass surface using water and a small amount of washing-up liquid. Interior films can be installed yourself. For exterior films on upper floors or hard-to-reach windows, we recommend a professional installer. Detailed installation instructions are included with every order.

Self-adhesive films can usually be removed without residue by heating with a hairdryer and peeling off slowly. The static variant adheres without glue and can be removed and reapplied at any time.
