Heat Protection Film for Windows

Heat Protection Film for Windows

When the sun heats up your rooms through the windows, heat protection film helps: it reflects or absorbs solar radiation and noticeably lowers the room temperature. Different film types are available depending on your window type and mounting location.

No Adhesive

Static Heat Protection Film

The static version adheres to the glass through adhesion without any glue. It can be removed and reapplied at any time without residue. Ideal for rental properties and seasonal use: apply in summer, remove in winter.

  • 80% heat protection, comparable to self-adhesive films
  • Removable without residue and reusable
  • Perfect for rental properties and seasonal use

Which Film for Which Situation?

The right choice depends on your window type, accessibility and the level of heat protection you need.

Skylights

Skylights heat up the most in summer as the sun hits almost vertically. Exterior film is essential here: interior films on skylights can cause thermal glass breakage. Exterior mounting also provides the best heat protection.

Recommended: Exterior solar film

Office and Workspace

Large window fronts in offices mean lots of heat and screen glare. Solar film lowers the room temperature and reduces glare at the same time. For single glazing, interior film is sufficient; for modern glazing, exterior mounting is required.

Recommended: Exterior or interior film depending on glass type

Rental Property

In a rental property, the film must be removable without residue. Static heat protection film adheres without glue and can simply be removed when moving out. Seasonal use is also possible: apply in spring, remove in autumn.

Recommended: Static solar film

Frequently Asked Questions About Heat Protection Film

Heat protection film and solar film describe the same product. Both terms refer to a window film that reflects or absorbs solar radiation to lower room temperature. The term heat protection film emphasises the thermal effect, while solar film emphasises protection from sun exposure.

Depending on the film type and tint level, heat protection film reduces solar energy by up to 90%. Exterior films are more effective than interior films as they reflect radiation before it reaches the glass. Interior films achieve up to 80% reduction.

On insulated glass, thermal glass and double glazing, only exterior film should be used. Interior films on these glass types can cause thermal glass breakage as the space between panes heats up excessively.

Yes, heat protection film reduces light transmission. The stronger the heat protection, the darker the film. Dark films allow approximately 16-20% light through, medium tints around 30%. For rooms that need to stay bright, a lighter variant with less heat protection is recommended.

In winter, the film also reduces solar heat gain through windows. In rooms with strong sun exposure (conservatories, south-facing windows), this may be desirable even in winter. For purely seasonal use, the static adhesive-free variant is ideal.

The film is applied to the clean glass surface using water and a little washing-up liquid. Interior films can be installed yourself; for exterior films on upper floors, we recommend a professional installer. The installation kit with squeegee and cutter is available in our shop.

Self-adhesive films can usually be removed without residue by heating with a hairdryer and peeling off slowly. The static variant adheres without glue and can be removed and reapplied at any time.
